Recent studies have revealed a definitive link between concussions sustained by playing football and larger issues including ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Dementia, and CTE.
Federal District Court Judge Anita Brody ruled to approve the NFL Concussion Settlement Agreement, a settlement which covers over 20,000 former players. With this agreement, affected players could be awarded up to $5 million each, making the settlement worth somewhere near $1 billion dollars in total payouts. The agreement also promises screenings for players to determine if they qualify, as well as funds to increase education about concussions.
On July 1st, 2016, Brody’s decision was upheld by the Third District Court of Appeals.
